Zelestra achieves full commercial operation at the 33 MWdc Socovos II solar plant in Spain
The project in Albacete (Spain), was built and connected on schedule by Zelestra’s internal EPC division. With a total capacity of 33 MWdc, the project will generate 65 GWh of clean energy per year, enough to power 18,000 homes. Socovos II is one of three solar plants enabled by a long-term virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) between Zelestra and Graphic Packaging International, which together add over 100 MWdc of new solar capacity.
Zelestra, a global, multi-technology, customer-focused renewable energy company, has announced full commercial operations at the 33 MWdc Socovos II solar plant in Albacete, Spain.
The project is one of three in Spain being delivered as part of a long-term vPPA with Graphic Packaging, a global leader in sustainable consumer packaging. The José Cabrera site (Guadalajara, 50 MWdc) is already operational, and Villamañán (León, 19 MWdc) is due to come online by year end.
The project will generate a total of 65 GWh/year of clean energy – enough electricity to meet the demands equivalent to approximately 18,000 local homes – which will also avoid the emissions of nearly 9,000 tons of CO₂ per year. More than 150 jobs were supported during the construction phase of the project.
Luis Alvargonzalez, Zelestra’s country manager in Spain, said: “We pride ourselves in creating long-term partnerships with our customers and we are very pleased with the confidence Graphic Packaging has shown in us. Our experienced in-house EPC team and excellent track record in delivery mean that we can execute multiple projects for customers at the same time across different regions. We look forward to connecting Villamañán in the near future and further enhancing the partnership.”
